JINX
JINX is an experimental electronic band formed in 2014 in
Amsterdam consisting of composers/dj’s Bas Schoevaars and Coen Rosing. Their music style mixes elements of techno, junglistics and breakbeat. The duo is know for their intens dark live shows and dj sets, and lo-fi homemade visuals with influences from the metal and hardcore punk scene.
They have toured all around the Netherlands, Germany and United Kingdom, as well as performed at many events as Dekmantel Festival, STRP Festival and Boiler Room.
They have been described by Djbroadcast as ‘the most inventive and influential concept in contemporary electronic music’.

Ideology
JINX wants to warn the young generation about the risks of
humanoid robots in the future. Automatism may help for now, but if the articial intelligence discovers self-awareness, there is a big chance that a robot takes over the power.
JINX uses scary humanoid elements in their work so the public enters the ‘uncanny valley’

Live shows
Live shows on JINX’s headline tour incorporate and unorthodox stage setting and video display. Bas and Coen line up in the front, towards the sides of the stage. With the Arkaos vj panel, a Roland TR-909 drum machine and two keyboards the duo perfoms. The video displays animations which contains many psychological messages and methaphors.

Dj sets
In their dj sets, JINX ususally use three decks, a Roland TR-909 drum machine, and up to seventy records in one hour. JINX’s Pale Flesh DVD, from january 2014, feautures them mixing live on three decks and CD player in a studio.

Visual arts
Part of JINX’s work as a band is to incorporate influences of other works of art in their music video’s, live shows and album packaging. Coen doubles as the band’s art director and director of their music video’s. Another expression of this is an official website ‘dedicated to the arts and influences’ on the band.
